Howdy, I have a 10,000 gallon, cement pool in Texas. I bought a new pentair 160340 filter that has cartridges. How often should I make clean it? I had read that they should be cleaned every half dozen months but the pool guy told me that it's every calendar month. :-|

Thanks

BTW. How practice I put the petty text below with my pool features.

You clean your filter cartridges when the filter pressure rises 25% above the clean pressure at the same pump rpm. Or once a yr if your pressure never rises to the level of 25% above make clean pressure.

Hi, I take a 10,000 gallon, cement pool in Texas. I bought a new pentair 160340 filter that has cartridges. How often should I make clean it? I had read that they should be cleaned every six months but the pool guy told me that it'southward every month. :-|

Thank you

BTW. How do I put the little text below with my pool features.

For this ^

Become up to the top right below pool school, and click on settings, then go to the left side of your screen and click on "edit signature".

For your filter, mine has a gauge on tiptop of it. It really depends on your conditions, and how much junk it'due south filtering out. My filters gauge was initially setup running at xiv psi, when it gets up effectually 20 psi, the approximate has a reading that it'due south time to clean. Anybody's filter volition run a little differently, only I am on ii years without cleaning it. I am very particular though, and clean my pools skimmer often, as well as sweep, clean out leaves, robot, etc.

For your filter, mine has a gauge on meridian of it. It really depends on your conditions, and how much junk it's filtering out. My filters gauge was initially setup running at 14 psi, when it gets upwards around 20 psi, the estimate has a reading that it's fourth dimension to make clean.
Jeremy -- Practise not use the dial markings to decide when to clean. Use 25% higher up make clean force per unit area.

Thank y'all.

Jeremy -- Do not use the dial markings to determine when to clean. Employ 25% above clean pressure.

Thank you.

So don't follow the markings on this gauge? I think it was installed with readings at fourteen, and they are still around fourteen. Merely don't await until information technology'due south around 20?

When y'all have cleaned and reassembled your filter, kickoff information technology up and notation the new "make clean" pressure. When it goes 25% to a higher place that number it is time to clean. I've gone through two of those gauges and am now going to switch to a glycerin one sold by TFTestkits. That black one isn't very accurate IMO.

dc,

Does the pool guy charge you to clean the filter? You lot have a 320 sq.ft. filter and so cleaning every calendar month seems way to frequently to me. But, each pool is different and yous should not apply fourth dimension every bit your just reference. As others have pointed out, you should employ the reading on the filter gauge to determine when to clean the cartridges. You take a reading when the filter is new, or has just been cleaned, and record that every bit your "clean" pressure, when the pressure level increases by 25 to xxx% and so it is time to clean them. As a minimum, I would make clean the cartridges one time a twelvemonth..

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.

Your pools plumbing and filter will decide the starting pressure (clean) and it'south easier and more than authentic to say clean when it's risen 20-25% from that. Depending on the specific guess and if it's adaptable or but static information technology might non be a proficient choice to employ to make up one's mind when to make clean. The 1 higher up yous can rotate that outer band and gear up the "Dirty" without using the "Clean". On the judge below, the red area to show needs to be cleaned isn't adjustable. That red area might be way to high a force per unit area or in some cases a pool might be in the red even right after cleaning the filter. That'due south why it'southward said not get go by the markings on the gauge (make clean, muddy).

I like the TFTestkits glycerin filled gauge. Mine is going on three years but yous need to proceed the face out of the sun or the fluid volition darken. Pressure Gauge Glycerin filled ii.5 Bottom Mount
The judge below is Non the TFTestkits guage.

If your filter is like mine, the gauge never goes up by much. I but try to do it every 3-4 months and so basically in the middle of the season and sometimes at then cease of the closing visitor doesn't do it. I am due for a cleaning now in fact.

If you follow the methods hither you shouldn't accept to clean it that often. Unless you get a bad algae bloom, have a lot of dirt tracked in from people going in and out of the pool, or tree droppings in the springtime.

I take to clean mine in the jump subsequently the tree sheddings make it the pool considering those clog upwards the filter, I keep my skimmers clean though and apply skimmer socks, I likewise have a puddle bot that runs daily to proceed the puddle clean.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but my question seems to fit. Mods, please motion if it should fit elsewhere.

Is there a reason I should be cleaning my cartridge filter on a periodic footing as well if the pressure has non increase past 25% above clean pressure?
My puddle has been running for 8 months now and the pressure hasn't gone up a unmarried PSI. I continue the pool fairly clean and a hairnet in the skimmer, so there isn't that much dirt that makes it to the filter. At this rate, I call up it will take years earlier my pressure goes up past 25%. Is information technology a good idea to clean, say annually anyway, or fine to just get for a really long time without cleaning the cartridges. (I know my gauge works because the force per unit area does change when I flip to spa mode).

Annotation: I did make clean it last month anyhow just because I was curious (new pool, I similar to have things autonomously, etc), simply my filter pressure level has never moved. Not really sure if I should make clean it again next twelvemonth now again regardless of pressure or wait until it goes upwardly even it takes several years.

I as well have a Pentair CCP cartridge filter, and my pressure has never risen in my 6 years of pool ownership. (I had the 420 for years until I remodeled & upgraded to the 520.) Then I tin can't go by that criterion to approximate when to clean.

In one case or twice, I have seen slight drips from under the clamp. My pool solar guy happened to be hither and saw it, too. He said that was an indication to clean the cartridges. Cleaning them indeed resolved the drip. Some bit of debris must have lodged in the o-ring, I estimate, instead of getting caught in the filter medium.

And then I now clean them every 6 months whether they demand it or not. Fifty-fifty though the pressure never climbs, there always turns out to be enough dead organic affair in the filter that I feel meliorate nigh cleaning.
