Before we delve in, we all need to take a brief moment of silence for my white Moroccan shag rug.
Born: January 2016 |Thrown in Dumpster: April 2017
Rest in peace, sweet rug.
What was I thinking buying a white shag rug? It was lovely while it lasted (albeit…not very long), and our Roomba would always get stuck on it. It went from white to ivory to gray over the last 15ish months, and I finally decided I had enough once I really looked at my living room. My style is Sleek, Modern & Glam, especially when I'm in a small space (and don't want clutter!) like my current apartment. Dingy, dirty rug totally wasn't fitting my style.
We are moving in 4ish months, so I needed a new rug that was neutral enough for now and later when we're in a house, and the Better Homes and Gardens collection, found in stores and at Walmart.com, is always my go to place for affordable décor. They seriously never let me down, and this partnership with them allows me to spruce up my spaces.

The Better Homes and Gardens Distressed Ogee Area Rug looked so beautiful on my Macbook screen, and I adored the pattern. It's large scale, easy to vacuum/clean, and the hardest decision was whether to go with cream gray or gray. Since I have a gray sofa, I thought and hoped the cream beige would be a bit on the lighter side. And I was right!
This rug is so comfy under foot and it laid flat almost instantly. I love that it was packaged with these shower cap like things (seen above) on the ends because they helped alleviate those pesky curled corners.
Since I was getting a new rug, I decided to also see what décor from Better Homes and Gardens I could inject into my space, and I instantly fell in love with these gold hurricane lanterns. They come in both a small and large size (both under $20 each) and they're a must-have decor item.
The gold frame is super thin so it truly has a modern look that would fit into any type of décor whether it be farmhouse, transitional, eclectic, or girly glam.
I bought both the small and large versions and I love how they add some drama to my coffee table and living room space. I enjoy coming home and lounging on the sofa with the warm candlelight glow from my hurricanes.
You could also put some succulents or mini bud vases in the lanterns for an outdoor table. I look forward to filling them with mini ornaments and jewels during the holidays as part of a centerpiece.
Pairing the lanterns with some cheap supermarket carnations and some books helps pull it all together.
Now my space feels clean, glam, sleek and totally updated for under $200. I am seriously so obsessed with this rug. It was a total steal for such a ginormous rug.
I also did a quick switcheroo with my living room curtains (also by Better Homes and Gardens, as is my lovely TV stand) to lighten up the room. Down came the gray velvet…
And up went the white sheers. What a difference! A whole new space in less than a few hours.
